We met in The Bronx Museum of the Arts, for an interesting and intriguing interview about coming out stories for an Internet Podcast Station (Gaydio), based in England. After our interviews, Alexandra and I discussed among many other things the disconnect of our LGBT community members in The Bronx. Our experiences relating to the borough brought us together, so (Alexandra), suggested that I should have another The White Shirt Project Reception. She attended the one I had at the Mott Haven Bar & Grill in The Bronx. Also, we would have the opportunity to show the project in this year's WORLD PRIDE 2019 in NYC. I agreed, and after a few months of searching for a venue throughout our borough with very little success, our dear friends at BRONX BARX made it possible for us to keep our reception in The Bronx. What started as an idea for a reception morphed into what is now The Bronx LGBT Expo
Puerto Rico is where I was born, and NYC is where I was raised. I've been a Bronx native for over 25 years. I never studied photography, but I consider the millions of hours on YouTube, at least the equivalent of an AFA. Before my Diagnosis of PTSD and Depression a few years back, I wanted to give back to my community in some capacity, so I enrolled in college and attended Bronx Community College, and Metropolitan College of NY. My studies were focused in Human Services, Liberal Arts and Psychology. After a series of loses and later my diagnosis, I was a different person. Creating The White Shirt Project, was a form of therapy but it wasn't an immediate concept. However, it became more than taking great photos of wonderful people, it was a way to bring awareness to Mental Illness, and how it affects everyone in our community by having familiar faces tell their stories. It's a healing process and a platform that so many in the project have today.
My passion for The Bronx, and its rich history led to my commitment to insure that The Bronx is on the radar for locals and tourists from around the world. This is the reason I founded Bronx Historical Tours, as I truly envisioned showing people the borough from a local perspective while promoting the history and culture of The Bronx. Our borough is a sparkling dynamic, and a vital destination for thousands of visitors. It’s the driving force for launching my company from a grass roots level.
As an entrepreneur and a Bronx native, I’m a big supporter of the arts, education and small businesses. And, I follow a sustainable tourism model that preserves the history and culture of this beautiful diverse borough. My tours offer an educational, fun and unique experience for all international and domestic visitors alike. The guided tours can be given both private or public, and are conducted in different neighborhoods throughout our NYC borough. I continuously foster positive relationships with small business owners, and integrate organic growth, community enhancement and a greater awareness to the important points of interests of The Bronx.
